Third Sunday Collection: November: Donna Ginter $729.13, December Giving Tree, January: YWCA Domestic Violence, (A member from the Y may be coming to the January meeting to speak to us), February: Boys and Girls Club.
We are in need of can holders for January and February at the 11:00 Mass because Timmerman's will be out of town. Frank & Cindy will do January
Fair Trade Coffee: Will be sold in January at the Donut Sunday- $211.00 stock remaining. We will put a note in the bulletin that if there is a need to purchase coffee, etc. other than on Donut Sunday, you may call the parish office if you would like to place an order.
St Pat's Meal: 12-12-07
Mission Meal: 2-03-08. We are looking for someone to oversee the planning of the mission meals. Kris Rodham has resigned as chairperson. Requires that you coordinate about 5 volunteers for the meals and people to bring 10 salads and 10 desserts
St John Neumann: Gifts were sent from the giving tree. Thank you to Ron Klosterman for the use of the Flexsteel truck once again! Other gifts from the tree will distributed December 20.
Utility Bills: 5 requests, one was denied
Food Pantry: Pantry is a little bare which is to be expected during the holiday season. Religious Ed. will be having a food drive. Please be mindful of the Food Pantry when you do your shopping.
Theresa Shelter: There are approximately 26 people staying there at this time.
City Wide Social Concerns: Meeting on December 5. Next month they will be looking at End of Life issues and the "Go Green" concept.
New Business: Fr. P.J. requested that we send money. We will be sending an additional $150.00 to use in December per his request.

End of life issues will be the topic.
St. John Neumann service trip: The trip went well; they painted a few rooms in the office area and the worship space. Fr.Mark baptized a 5 month old baby on Sunday, and they went to a parishioner's home who was ill to celebrate his birthday with him. Thanks to all that went on the trip and for all those who donated materials. Sr. Alies sent a gift home with Fr. Mark. It was a painting signed by all the St John Neumanns parishioners. It can be found in Martin Hall for viewing.

Fair trade: Donut Sunday they sold 1 bag of coffee, we need to advertise more by word of mouth and in the bulletin. Coffee and chocolate will be sold at Octoberfest.

Theresa Shelter: Coming in Mid September the shelter will be open 24 hours a day. People may stay up to 30 days. This change of schedule will be made temporarily and re-evaluated once staff sees how things go.
St John Neumann: Service trip planned for November 10-15th. Please spread the word about this opportunity to serve our adopt-a-mission parish.
Food pantry: Doing well. RE children will have a food drive monthly.
Octoberfest: Plan to attend our Octoberfest and help at our booth to spread awareness about what we do, Fair Trade, Eupora.

City Wide Social Concerns Meeting: 8-21-07 Topic of immigration. July's program of Crime and punishment was fairly attended.
St John Neumann: Trip was planned for November 10-15 possibly. Sr. Alies sent us a wish list of things that she would like done to their worship space. We need to determine what we can get done in a limited time frame and who would be best suited to go on the trip to perform these jobs. There was a subcommittee formed that will meet to do much of the pre-planning for after hours activities RE: prayer services, materials that need to be purchased, etc. We have tabled the discussion until next meeting in September.
Fair Trade Coffee: Frank and Cindy will order coffee for Octoberfest.
Octoberfest: We are putting together a basket for the raffle again this year. Cindy Kraus's daughter will assemble the basket for the committee. Kathy Runde will purchase some of these items.
Food Pantry: Pantry is in good shape. Keep looking in the back of church on the bulletin board for the needs of the pantry.
New business:

May 14, 2007

Prayer time: 7th Sunday of Easter That they may be one.

Presentation from Shawn about the Clarity Clinic: Shawn shared a few stats with us and the fact the most of the women coming into the clinic were already life minded which was wonderful but they began to focus on women who were abortion minded, particularly upper class, white, and college age women. They transform fear into confidence. They are located at: 2100 Asbury Rd, Suite 6, Dubuque, Iowa 52001
Hours are Monday & Wednesday 10-5, Tuesday& Thursday 10- noon & 2-8pm. Thank you Shawn for the wonderful presentation and for all the work you do for the women of our community!

City Wide Social Concerns Meeting: Citywide event- Crime and Punishment-Call to Justice June 24 @ 12pm & June 25 @ 7pm. Presenters will be Deacon Bill Biver & Dave Cushing. Next regular CWSC meeting, May 22, 2007.
St. John Neumann Report: $900.00 payment will be made to Glenmary May 1st. This is St. John Neumann's 30th Anniversary year. Our hope is to send some parishioners down to help them celebrate this event.
Theresa shelter: No volunteers needed at this time. Numbers are going up due to some improvements that were made at the shelter.
New Business:
Christmas in July: Giving tree will include in parish children as well as Eupora children.
Requests: Dubuque Rescue Mission request for used exercise equipment.
Hondruas trip: $50.00 will go to the people of Mission Honduras

3rd Sunday collection: $644.84 to St. John Neumann, we sent Easter items, we bought 4 albs, 2 book holders. The surplus we will save for use at a later date.

April's collection will go to both Birthright and Tri-State Pregnancy Center: May will go to Theresa Shelter & Opening Doors
St. Pats Meal: April 25th

Bread for the World: form letter writing campaign regarding payments to big farmers.

Homebound meals: Mary and Bob Timmerman will be gone this month. We will meet at Joan Sampson's on April 18th.

Fair Trade coffee was sold at the Lenten Buffets and it will also be sold at the next donut Sunday in May. It seems to have sold well .We will look into a booth at Octoberfest

Utility payments: No requests

St. John Neumann report: 12 Easter boxes were sent. Thank you Flexsteel for shipping these boxes. There was some discussion about where we go from here with mission. We may form a separate committee to work with St John Neumann. The tithe to Glenmary of $3600.00 will come from the general fund for 2007-2008 budget.

New Business:

Officers: we are still looking for a co-chair.

City Wide Social Concerns meeting: March 11 topic: Global warming
Boys & Girls Club: Brian Meyer was here to talk to us about things that are going on at the club. He shared with us that the United Way contributes $160,000 to the Club. They have to fundraise the remaining portion with an Annual budget of $640,000. They are serving approximately 400 kids. They have a computer lab, take mini trips to the park, Zoo, ballgames, pool, and they also do service work in the community. In 2006 they served 4,000 meals. Thank you Brian for all your hard work and dedication to these kids!

Bread for the World: Frank had a booklet that contained all the new State representatives and their addresses. There is also a letter writing campaign now concerning clean water and HIV.
Utility Requests: there were 4 requests for utility help and 4 were granted, there were many requests for rent help and they were referred to Operation New View.
Lenten Fish Fry: March 2 and 16 serving 5-7pm, Fair Trade coffee and chocolate will be sold at that time.
Sr. Alies and Lorenzo will be visiting here February 22-26 Parish staff lunch on Friday, Social Concerns dinner Friday Night, Saturday night Parish Potluck, Sunday donuts after Mass
New Business:
Food Pantry will have needs after the school closes. We will call on the RE children as well as the slips that Tania places in the back of church stating the pantries needs, and we will explore some other options as well.

St. Patrick Meal: February 7
Parish Twinning: We got a booklet from our Adopt-a-Mission Parish in Eupora that shows some parish life in Mississippi. We are pleased that this Giving tree project reached so many of their families. We will be displaying the Cookbook through the month of January in Church.
Sr. Alies and Lorenzo Azu will be visiting from February 22 through February 25. The will be leaving the morning of February 26, 2007. Their was discussion about what activities we should sponsor while they are here. There was also discussion about accommodations we would offer them. We will check with Sr. Alies about what accommodations would be acceptable, and what information she would like to have about our parish when they are here to spend time in our community. The Social Concerns Committee will gather on February 23 for dinner at the rectory with Sr. Alies and Lorenzo. There was discussion about a potluck/informational gathering on Saturday night following the 5:00 p.m. Liturgy at which Sr. Alies would be the presenter.
Bread for the World: No new information until next meeting.
Fair Trade Coffee: Frank and Cindy brought supplies with them. We plan to sell coffee and chocolate items at the parish Fish Fry events. Frank has been talking with Tim Thill about this. Frank made a motion to allocate money for this. He will bring the order to the parish office and we will process through the office. Frank will prepare a bulletin announcement.
Teresa Shelter: No volunteers needed at this time. There are only about 5 people being ministered to at this time. They have enough cereal at this time
Hope House: There is need for some volunteers to serve on the weekends. Sr. Carol Karwoski has been calling for volunteers.
Salvation Army: Jim Halverson said we collected $682.23 ringing bells.

NEW BUSINESS:
There will be an Informational Session on Stem Cell Research on January 21 between Masses. Dr. Janine Idziak will be the presenter for this session.
Sr. Marilyn and Cindy Pfiffner scheduled this event to be held in Martin Hall. Sr. Marilyn asked that Tania McClain inform this committee about the session so they could attend.

Pastoral Planning: Fr. Mark talked about the pastoral planning. He said that pastoral planning could affect this committee.

Fr. Mark talked about forming a budget for this committee. He said we should average the last 5 years and we should be able to come up with an estimated budget. He said we should have some idea about what we plan to spend for the next fiscal year starting July 1, 2007. He said that at the end of the fiscal year, whatever money we have in our accounts will be kept in the social concerns accounts for the next year. He said those monies would not be transferred into the general operating fund. Mary Timmerman and Tania McClain will meet with Nancy Ehrlich tomorrow to make corrections to the December budget print out. Mary Timmerman will be out of town for two months, so Tania McClain will present the proposed budget to Fr. Mark and Nancy Ehrlich by the 15 of January. Copies will be sent to Sandy Radke and Mary Timmerman.

Parish twinning: Sandy Radke and Tania McClain made a trip to Eupora, Mississippi. to visit with Sr. Alies and her parishioners. They spent 2 n
ights with Sr. Alies. They shared many photos with us from their trip.
Our short term goal is to purchase a computer for Sr. Alies which would come from SC Funds. Sandy and Tania's trip expenses were approved.
Thank you Sandy and Tania for all your hard work!
Requests: Tania had 9 utility requests and 7 rent requests this month. Social Concerns was asked to approve 2 requests @ $150.00 each.

Stewardship meeting: September 19, 2006 all were asked to please attend.
Octoberfest: Each committee is asked to make a poster displaying what your committee does. We will also be donating a basket to be raffled off at the festival. Kathy and Michelle Runde will be making and donating a tie blanket for the basket.
Cell Phone drop off: will be at the Y and Wal-Mart to aide in YWCA Domestic Abuse

Bob and Ray addressed the committee requesting funds for St Vincent De Paul Society to assist the poor. They help with vouchers for utilities, gas, rent, food, medical, etc. In 2005 they donated $3,726.00 .Social Concerns agreed to give them $500.00 to assist their efforts. Thank you gentleman for all you do!

" Twinning Update: Sister Allie was in the hospital for some time. There is a possibility that she will visit us this summer. We are welcome to go down there anytime. There is a guesthouse for us to stay in .We will meet the people and assess their needs. They worship in a house and they have 1 mass per weekend.
" 3rd Sunday collection: March $477.77 April: Tri-State Pregnancy Center and Birthright
May: Teresa Shelter. We need coverage for 2 doors at the 8:30 Mass.
" Meals for the homebound 4/19/06 Need drivers. Student Council members will help deliver.
" Restorative Justice/Circle of Support was held April 15 there were 25 for dinner and 15 for Tom Lange's talk.
" Rescue mission dinner served 70
" City Wide Social Concerns Committee meets the second Tuesday of the Month they talked about Farmers Market/Harvest of Hope. They would like to have churches take a Saturday and serve breakfast starting in the fall of 2006. On September 16th, there will be a Just Faith Workshop informational session. This is a 1 day workshop to explain a 30 week program.
" Frank and Cindy Kraus gave a report on Bread for the World. They gave us sample letters to send to our congressmen and representatives about increased development aid directed to reducing poverty.

New Business:
" Elections will be held in June
" Requests: Otto Krueger asked us to contribute to Shoes for Orphan Soles in June. There was a suggestion to put this request in the bulletin starting in May.
" St .Patrick's Dinner will be held April 22 @ 5pm. Sharon Frommelt is the chairperson and she will need people to work, make salads, and Eunice could use help cooking ham balls at 1pm.
" Sister Carol Karwoski was at our meeting to inform us about St.Teresa Emergency Shelter @ 1100 Bluff St.. They plan to open by Mother's Day. People are allowed to stay no longer than 30 days . They must leave the shelter every day by 8:00 am. They have the capacity to house 30 people at a time. Only women and children . Boys up to 12 years of age. They would like to see 2 volunteers per parish one day a month. There will be one paid staff member plus 2 volunteers per shift. The volunteer shifts are as follows:
6am - 8:15 am, 6pm - 8:30pm, 8pm - 10:30pm

Third Sunday collection:
March- Dubuque Boys & Girls Club Meal program, April-Tri-state Pregnancy Center and Birthright. We have been having trouble with coverage at the side doors.
We will make some calls to make sure all the doors are covered.

Twinning update: Sr Alies was in the hospital for a few weeks and was not able to be here this month. Mary Coan may be taking a trip down there this spring. Sandy will make a call to see if Mary is still planning to go Also to see if Sr. Alies is feeling better.

Lenten supper: Wednesday April 5 Cindy is looking for volunteers to help with this dinner.
Joan Sampson and Mary Timmerman will volunteer. Tom Lang will speak on Restorative Justice

Homebound meals: Joan has had 7 calls from people willing to help with this ministry. They will help Joan cook. We will still need people to help deliver the meals

Tania's report on electric bills: There have been 14 checks written to 8 or 9 different people.
.March had two requests this month for $250.00

New Business:

Jim Yeast wrote us a letter requesting us to write letters regarding Immigration Reform There are form letters on a website www.justiceforimmigrants.org if you would like to participate.

Request for Scrip: Tania received a donation from St.Joseph Boy Scout Troop 19 for the food pantry so she has requested $150.00 in scrip to buy food for the pantry. The request was granted. Thank you Boys scouts and Dr. Doug Olk.

Dubuque Rescue Mission dinner will be March 26, 2006. They are in need of desserts and salads

Joan Sampson requested that Thank you notes be written to all those that responded to her plea for help with the homebound meal program.

There was a suggestion by Tania that our bulletin include some items that are needed for our food pantry. We will included that in our Social Concerns section for the bulletin a few times a month

Bread for the World Update: Frank Kraus had form letters for us to sign and send to Senators Chuck Grassley and Tom Harkin regarding increased aid to reduce Poverty. We will all sign and send.

Mary Coan requested $200 to cover expenses they occurred from their January trip to New Orleans with Clarke College. Her request was granted.

March 29,2006 Fr. Mark Ressler will give a talk on Love in The Secular Society according to Pope Benedict XVI. We will meet at 6:45-8:00 in Martin Hall. All are encouraged to attend.

St. Patrick's Parish meals are January 25, April 26, August 30, October 4, and December 13. Sharon Frommelt is the coordinator and contact person from Social Concerns.

City Wide Social Concerns meeting @ The Cathedral Center January 17, 2006 at 7 p.m.

Stewardship survey: Please fill out and return by January 31st

Adult work camp: June 25 - July 1 to New Orleans there will be a meeting after mass January 15 for anyone 18 years or older

Donations: there were 2 donations this month one for $1000.00 for heating bills. The other for $1000.00 for general use. Thank you to all for your generosity

Loras College: requested money for a dance marathon they are having to benefit The Children's Miracle Network. There was a motion by Tania to give $200.00 second by Kathy Runde .

Tri-State Pregnancy Center: Request money to purchase an Ultra sound machine. Motion by Sandy Radke to give $250.00 second by Marie Green.

John Frommelt: Speaking tonight about his experiences when he went to help people in New Orleans after Katrina.

Monday December 19 @ 9AM we will meet in Martin Hall to organize and distribute gifts.

People In Need: they do research and screening on people they are asking for aide. They help people with utility needs, it was decided that we would contribute $ 250.00

Bread for the World: February 5 meeting letter writing campaign Frank and Cindy Kraus will be attending the meeting. They will report more in February. They like to see once or twice a year a parish write a letter regarding certain issues.

3rd Sunday Collection: It was agreed upon that Donna would mark the 4 3rd Sunday collection cans each month so we are sure that it gets into the bulletin in a timely manner. August collection was for Hope House and $ 290.14 was collected. Social Concerns added $209.86 to total $500.00. September's collection will be for Catholic Charities with the proceeds going to Katrina relief fund. October's collection will be for Dubuque Right to Life. There will be a list of all 3rd Sunday collection dates at each vestibule..

Parish Twinning Update: Sandy gave a report and presented handouts on Eupora and Dansville, Arkansas. She will contact Sr. Alies and Mary Coan to see where we can go from here. We are leaning towards Eupora, Mississippi.

Requests: St. Mark's capital campaign $500.00, Tania requested $150.00 for a parishioner's Electric bill. Bread for the World requested that we start a letter writing campaign and they also requested monetary contributions. Fr.Mark explained to us that they are a lobbying group in congress that fights for food related issues and we can write our congressman with our thoughts on food related issues national and international they also like you to contribute money on a regular basis they fight to keep our government food programs going. Fr.Mark informed us on this program, which he also belongs to and what they actually do. He encouraged us to go to their web site. For more information go to www.bread.org/one. We will continue our discussion on this next month and make a decision, what to do then.

Donations: Sr. Beth Driscoll gave a $15.00 donation to the food pantry thank you Sr.Beth!

Hurricane Katrina: Kris Rodham attended a meeting at Clarke College for the Dubuque Community Network to organize local hurricane relief efforts. There will be a Hurricane Katrina Relief Drive at the Kennedy Mall on Saturday September 17th 8am-5pm. We will continue to follow the many different efforts that are being done and keep in contact with Sr. Beth Driscoll who is presently working down there in that area.

Mission dinners: St. Pat's on September 28th.
Meals for the homebound at Joan Sampson's House September 21, 2005. Menu will be Roast pork, hash brown potatoes, glazed carrots, cookie.

Third Sunday Collection:
June: giving tree helped 47 children,
July: Shoes for orphaned soles $381.58 was collected at the doors, and $368.42 was added from donation account for a total of $750.00 spent on shoes. 171 pairs of shoes were sent overseas.
August: Hope House - in the past we have made the check out to Breitbach Feed and Seed because they provide Hope House with their supplies. We have to make a call to see if that will continue to be the procedure.
We will start using 4 cans for Third Sunday Collections when we move to Nativity.

Parish Twinning: Tania McClain and Sandy Radke went to Waterloo, Iowa to meet with Fr. Francois. He is familiar with Glenmary and he feels that the Parish in Europa, Mississippi would be a very good fit for our parish. More information will follow.

Mission Dinners: Dubuque Rescue Mission-- October 16th
St. Patrick's Dinners-- September 28th & November 30th 5:00pm.

Meals for the homebound: August 17th menu: Fish, Rice & Broccoli, roll, and cookie
September 21st. menu: Pork Roast, hashbrown potatoes, glazed carrots, cookie.
All will meet at Joan Sampson's house to put meals together and deliver them.

Requests: The staff from Anapra mailed a request to Mary and Bob Timmerman for a donation for school supplies. $350.00 was sent.

New Business:
Donations: Mary Alice Kirkwood donated $ 50.00 for $crip for the food pantry. An anonymous donor gave $100.00 in food supplies . Thank you to all for your support!
Just a reminder that $crip is also welcome. Jim and Betty Shaffer donated a box of food and a cash donation of $224.78. Thank you Jim & Betty!

Mission Dinners- Kris Rodham's prayer group has agreed to be chair people for the dinners. Thank you Kris and group members for your support!

Parish twinning project was tabled. One of the parishes is no longer in need and the other parish we were going to visit received a new priest and he felt that he needed to get to know his new parish and access their needs.

Food Pantry- the food pantry has been moved to Fr. Mark's basement due to renovation. Please contact Tania at the parish office 588-1433 if you have something for the pantry.

Committee Tithing- We received a request for a donation for a woman going to Kenya we will re- look at this at the August meeting. Also it was brought to the table the Stonehill was beginning there Annual Appeal. We will not contribute at this time.

August meeting will be Monday August 8,2005 @ 7:00pm

Chair and co-chair- Chris Rodham will be the new chair at the August meeting.
We are currently still looking for a co-chair!

Old Business: Tania and Sandy reported on the Long range planning meeting. They were split up in 4 main focus groups: The Word, Collaboration, Stewardship & Evangelization. They were asked to come up with ideas to improve on each of these areas. More will come on the outcomes.

May: Dubuque Regional Aides Coalition.

There were many requests for utility help in March. Tania shared that was because companies were able to shut off utilities April 1st. They were referred to St Vincent DePaul
Parish Twinning: The committee is looking for people to visit two prospective cities. Chapmanville, West Virginia and Idabelle, Oklahoma. More will be discussed at the May Social Concerns meeting.
Christmas in July: We will continue the Christmas in July tree for school supplies for children. Ashley Rodham will make the Pencils to hang on the tree. Thank you to the Rodham family!
Emergency Homeless Shelter Meeting: Tania McClain & Kathy Runde will attend a meeting April 12th @ 1:30pm about the forming of an Emergency Homeless Shelter in Dubuque.
Cropwalk: Kathy Runde sent a letter to Sr.Anita explaining that we will no longer contribute to Cropwalk because they support Planned Parenthood.

A. Parish Twinning-GlenMary contacted, they will be sending us information on three potential parishes to twin. We requested the areas of Arkansas and Mississippi. We discussed sending people from this committee to evaluate prospective parishes, we’ll see what parishes come up. Also discussed that our committee has funds to use with this project, depending on need.
B. Utility Bills, none paid in January.
C. Third Sunday Collection, February will be for Catholic Relief Services, March will be for Boys and Girls Club. Gary Grap will help with the cans at the door.
D. Motion passed to donate $300 to the Nigerian Sisters in Rockford, Ill..
E. Meals for the Homebound, February 16th at Joan Sampson’s, Stew, rolls, and dessert.
New Business:
F. Motion passed to buy beef and pork from rural outreach, $150 to buy meat. Food pantry supplies down, need to raise awareness in March to be published in Bullentin.
G. Long range planning discussed, meeting March 19th. We discuss in March meeting what items to discuss, parish twinning and stewardship effect on Social Concerns mentioned. Member of this Committee to attend this meeting.
H. Discussed officer elections for 2005-2006. Kris Rodham has agreed to be next chairperson, other officers TBA.
I. Discussed Emailing of minutes and agenda’s. Will no longer have envelopes in sacristy. Will have copies of minute’s and agenda’s at the meetings. I will try this for March meeting.
J. Motion passed to send Fr. PJ $300 for 6 month donations.
