About Faith Formation

"Faith is both a gift of God and an authentically human response - a recognition of God's call in one's life and a free decision to follow this call by accepting and living the truth of the Gospel. As such, faith is living and active, sharing many of the qualities of living things: it grows and develops over time; it learns from experience; it adapts to changing conditions while maintaining its essential identity; it goes through seasons, some apparently dormant, others fruitful, though wherever faith is present the Holy Spirit is at work in the life of the disciple." (Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us #50)

August 2006

The Education and Faith Formation Committee has initiatiated an evaluation and planning process which will culminate in a five year plan for faith formation for our parish. We have included the raw data, as well as a summary of information from the initial meetings.

The Tasks of Catechesis
To promote knowledge of the faith.
To promote knowledge of the meaning of the liturgy and the sacraments.
To promote moral formation in Jesus Christ
To teach the Christian how to pray with Christ.

To prepare the Christian to live in community and to participate actively in the life and mission of the Church.

To promote a missionary spirit that prepares the faithful to be present as Christians in society.

We are all called to see faith as a gift and to continue to nurture that faith through reflection, prayer, involvement in community life, and works of service. Our parish encourages its members to participate in small faith sharing groups, to take advantage of renewal opportunities, and to take time as a household to talk about God.

It is our goal to reach out to parishioners of all ages. We have programs for children and youth through St. Joseph the Worker School and Religious Education Programs. The Adult Faith Formation Committee is charged with the task of helping us to reach out to adults in new ways as we recognize the importance of adult faith formation.
