Children's
Liturgy of the Word
"Let the children come to me, and do
not hinder them,
for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."
Mark 10:14
Children's Liturgy of the Word is offered on the second, third and
fourth Sunday of each month during 8:30 am Mass and 11:00 am Mass.
Children's Liturgy of the Word has two purposes:
- To provide a quality liturgical experience
for children
- To proclaim scripture in a way that children
will be able to understand and live.
The
celebrations of these liturgies are intended to form children in the liturgical
language of the Church, to nourish and guide their spiritual growth, and
to immerse them in the Word in ways that are understandable to them.
Children's
Liturgy of the Word is provided for the children of St. Joseph the Worker
through the Department of Religious Education and is coordinated by Diane
Pape-Freiburger.
Many parishioners work together to provide this quality liturgical experience.
Adult volunteers coordinate, preside, present homilies and lead music
for the children. Adults and children work together in creating the environment
for the liturgical space. Children from within the children's assembly
are invited to share the Word by reading scripture from the Children's
Lectionary. Children are also invited to be active participants in the
liturgy during the homily and by sharing their musical talents.
Children
at St. Joseph the Worker gather with their families and the assembly for
the opening rites. After the opening prayer, children are called forth
to process to their separate worship place. (Adults are always welcome,
too!) The Sunday Readings and Gospel are proclaimed from the Children's
Lectionary. A homily, creed and prayers of the faithful, that are appropriate
for school age children, are also shared. Children return to the assembly
during the gathering of the gifts and complete the celebration of the
Mass with their families.
Participation in this liturgical experience
is appropriate for school age children. Younger children should be accompanied
by an adult.
Schedule
for leaders for 2007 - 2008.
Adults and children are invited to share their
time and talents! If you feel you may want to help with this parish ministry,
please contact the parish
office or call 563-588-1433.
