Small Faith Sharing Groups

encourage one another daily
. . so that none of you
may be hardened
by sin’s deceitfulness...
Hebrews 3:13

We cannot live a spiritual life alone. The life of the Spirit is like a seed that needs fertile ground to grow. This fertile ground includes not only a good inner disposition, but also a supportive(environment).
When we are serious about living a spiritual life we are responsible for the (environment) where it can grow and mature. We can choose friends, books,. . . places to visit, and people to be with that, taken together, offer an environment that allows the mustard seed that God has sown in us to grow into a strong tree.
Here and Now: Living in the Spirit by Henri Nouwen

WHAT IS A SMALL FAITH SHARING GROUP?

A group of adults (usually 6 - 12) who meet regularly (weekly, biweekly, monthly) to reflect on Scripture, share life, and pray. Some groups also meet during the Lenten season or to discuss a book or topic.

WHAT TYPES OF ISSUES ARE DISCUSSED?

Each group develops their own format, but most often the Sunday readings are discussed and related to daily life. Current Church teachings, social justice issues, forms of prayer, the Catholic catechism, service to others, stewardship and evangelization are also frequently used topics.

HOW ARE GROUPS FORMED?

The Adult Faith Formation Committee will assist those interested in forming faith sharing groups and will also provide possible materials for use. Often parishioners seek out other individuals on their own and start groups.

WHO SHOULD BE IN A SMALL FAITH SHARING GROUP?

Anyone who is seeking a deeper relationship with Jesus and an effective way to join faith and life together.

This is what other parishioners say:

“Being in a small faith sharing group opens my heart and eyes to the presence of God that surrounds me.” Rose Brillhart

“There is tremendous strength in having a group of Christian people share, discuss, and reflect on Christ’s ways.” Mike Martin

“(My faith sharing group) gives me a chance to experience Christian love and an honest opportunity to grow in faith.” Mike Scherr

“I feel that my personal faith journey has been carried much farther than it would have been had I not joined a group. It has helped me so much in dealing with life’s challenges.”
Sue Schneider

“I love our faith sharing group! It has been a constant in a changing world. We encourage one another to live our faith in our community.” Bobbi Martin

“(If you’ve ever considered being in a faith sharing group) just do it.” Gail Scherr

“I have learned to openly express my faith and to open my heart and my mind.”
Jerry Wessels
