Adult Youth Advisory Board

Dennis LeGrand

I became involved in our youth group by an invitation from Sue Krukonis, the Youth Ministry Coordinator. She needed chaperones for a service trip. I thought at that time I could make the sacrifice and do this for God. I had no idea that God would use this event to open my eyes and change my life. Working with the youth in our parish has been amazing. I am constantly being knocked off my feet by the faith that our young adults have. Just when you think they're not paying attention it will hit you right between the eyes. I have learned two important things while working with our youth. First, we must always continue to invite, invite, and invite. The second is to never stop sowing God's seed. You never know when those seeds will sprout. I can tell you this: what I have seen from the youth of SJTW is very reasuring. Faith and Fun are both very alive in the SJTW youth group. I invite both the youth and the adults to check it out.

I feel that the SJTW Youth Group provides parish youth with opportunities to become actively involved with their faith. Through Group activities the youth further a maturing relationship with Jesus. For example, Catholic Heart Work Camp service trips give firsthand experience of what it means to serve others in need. Youth begin to see Jesus alive in those they serve, often for the first time and return home as changed persons. They may begin to see Jesus in others back home and maybe even themselves. Our youth will be the church leaders of tomorrow. The SJTW Youth Group offers them many wonderful opportunities to further their relationship with Jesus, develop leadership skills, and realize that living one’s faith can be fun. Witnessing firsthand the maturing faith lives of many youth who have been involved in the SJTW Youth Group gives me sense of pride and great hope for our future.
