Dress Code

Uniform Code for St. Joseph the Worker School 2006-2007

Purpose
The purpose of the uniform code at St. Joseph the Worker School is to:

  • Have students neat, clean, and ready to learn.
  • Prevent distractions to the learning environment.
  • Minimize faddishness & the comparison of one student to another.
  • Have a clear policy to assist parents in the time-consuming and expensive process of purchasing clothes for school.
  • Students must always wear clothing that is in good taste and not disruptive to the learning environment.

Shirts

  • Solid colors of NAVY or WHITE or RED
  • Short or long-sleeved polo shirts with collars
  • Turtlenecks are allowed
  • Must be free of lettering (except HFCS system or HFCS school names)
  • Must be free of contrasting embroidery and trim (except for small manufacturer logos)
  • Must be buttoned and tucked into pants, capris, shorts or skirts at all times
  • Only solid white short-sleeved t-shirts may be worn under uniform shirts

Pants

  • Solid colors of KHAKI (tan) or NAVY or BLACK dress pants (capri pants are acceptable for girls-mid-shin length or longer)
  • Dress slacks with a maximum of one extra pocket per leg
  • Must be free of contrasting stitch or trim
  • Denim, spandex, sweatpants, and wind pants are not allowed

Shorts and Capris

  • Solid colors of KHAKI (tan) or NAVY or BLACK
  • Dress shorts and capris may be worn from beginning of the year through October 15 and April 15 through the end of the year
  • Shorts may be no shorter than mid-thigh in length

Sweaters/Sweatshirts

  • Solid colors of NAVY or WHITE or GREY or RED
  • Non-hooded Wahlert High School and Mazzuchelli Middle School sweatshirts with color combinations using only official school colors of gold/blue/white are acceptable
  • No hoods
  • No zippered sweatshirts or sweaters
  • Must be free of lettering (except for HFCS systems or HFCS school name)
  • Must be free of contrasting embroidery and trim (except for small manufacturer logos)
  • Long-sleeved crew neck must be worn under sweatshirts and sweaters
  • A dress code shirt must be worn under sweatshirts and sweaters
  • Fleece wear is not allowed

Skirts/Jumpers/Skorts

  • Solid colors of KHAKI (tan) or NAVY or BLACK or HFCS plaid uniform skirt, jumper or skort
  • Shorts are encouraged to be worn under skirts/jumpers
  • No shorter than mid-thigh in length

Socks/Tights/Shoes

  • Socks and/or tights required at all times
  • Tights in solid WHITE, NAVY or BLACK
  • Closed-toed and closed-heel shoes (no sandals, jelly shoes, sling backs, flip flops or clogs)

Scout Uniforms

  • Allowed on meeting day

Accessories & Hairstyles

  • Simple post earrings only-no hoop earrings
  • Hats/caps are not permitted
  • Fingernail polish is allowed
  • Display of body piercing other than ears is not allowed
  • Hair must be a non-distracting color and style
  • No makeup allowed and no tattoos

Out of Uniform Days

  • On out of uniform days students are never allowed to wear clothing that has drug, alcohol, tobacco, or sexual references.
  • No bare midriffs, spaghetti straps or halter-tops
  • Shorts, dresses or skirts must be atleast mid-thigh in length
